Register Spworkflowservice Unable To Connect To The Remote Service At

I am unable to get workflow manager to register in my farm, I have installed the workflow manager on the application server and the client on the 2 WFE's.
The Workflow mgt app pool is running, workflow mgt site is running, the service application proxy is started, the workflow timer service is started, the workflow manager backend service is running in the service msc, the sercurity token service application
is running, but I am unable to get the service to register.
I am also able to open the URL for the service in a browser running as an admin http://server:12291/ and see the XML.
when I run Get-WFFarmstatus it shows the frontend and backend service status as running.
the error I get is
Register-SPWorkflowService : Failed to query the OAuth S2S metadata endpoint at URI 'http://site collection URL/_layouts/15/metadata/json/1'. Error details: 'An error occurred while sending the request.' HTTP headers received from the server - ActivityID:
51f844c9-a6b7-40a1-a381-9972506beb0c. NodeId: 20sp7. Scope: /SharePoint. Client ActivityId: 32ea0817-17b8-46a2-8418-bba5438b1a20.
The service account is a local admin, it has full control over the web application.
I also ran the
$config = (Get-SpSecurityTokenServiceConfig)
$config.AllowOAuthOverHttp = $true
$config.AllowMetadataOverHtto = $true
$config.Update()
before running the register command still getting the same error.
I have disconnected the workflowmanager from the farm and reconnected it, even uninstalled it, the service bus and workflow client and deleted all the DB's and reinstalled it. Everything seems to be running just will not allow me to register it.

Please try to browse the following URL and see if it gives you option to download 1.json
http://siteurl/_layouts/15/metadata/json/1
Please share entries found in ULS Logs while running the command.
Also try using -Force switch while running the command and check the behavior.

do you have SharePoint Developer tools Preview for VS 12 installed on the server, if yes? you have to uninstall it, reboot it and run the register command again.

  • Hi
I have SharePoint 2013 farm and installed Workflow Manager 1.0 and configured it and have been runing fine for several months. I upgraded this farm to SP 1 and then started having some issue with publish WF 2013 with task in SPD.
I re-Registered using Register-SPWorkflowService command and that fixed the problem and WorkFlow Manager running again OK. It has been couple of monthle and now I am having the problem again but with a different error on SPD
So doing what I did before, I tried to re-Registered WFM but this time getting the error below
Register-SPWorkflowService : The data or messaging layer is unavailable. Please retry
    after 300 seconds.
The only possible resolution that I found is to add the -AllowOAuthHttp in my Register-SPWorkflowService cmdlet but that didnot not resolve the problem. I tried that anyway eventhough we do not allow http.
I did some checking for status and configuration and Get-SBFarmstatus showing all WFM services are running OK
I browsed to the WFM server https://servername:12290 and get the same error
    - <Errorxmlns:i='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance'>
    <Code>UnexpectedError</Code>
<Message>The data or messaging layer is unavailable. Please retry after 300
    seconds.</Message>
    </Error>

  • I have installed the workflow manager successfully. However, when I try to run Register-SPWorkflowService I get a 401 Unauthorized error. I am running SharePoint 2013 Management Shell as administrator.
When I use internet explorer to browse to https://FQDNofServer:12290 I get prompted for my password 3 times and then get the Not Authorized Error here as well. I have tried this from the local host as well as remote machines with the same result therefore,
I don't think I need to disable loopback check.
My user is a member of the Workflow AdminGroup as well as a local admin, farm administrator and I also added my account as an administrator for the Workflow Service Application in Central Administration. I also tried giving the workflow service account full
    read on the web application.
I cannot find anything in the ULS logs or windows event viewer logs when the login fails. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You.

  • I am trying to install Workflow Manager 1.0 on our SharePoint Server 2013 which is On-Prem installation. The SharePoint Server 2013 is functioning correctly. During the installation of Workflow Manager 1.0 on the same SharePoint 2013 server, I receive the
following message: 'Port number 9355 specified for HTTPS Port is blocked' I have checked our firewall Inbound rules and this port is not blocked.
Any reason why this could be happening or did I miss anything?
    Thanks Snehal H.Rana SharePoint Consultant

I am happy to inform you that I was able to resolve this error. I configured this on different ports other than 9355. We need to modify 2 files called 'ClusterManifest.1.0.xml' and 'ClusterManifest.current.xml' in c:Program
FilesWindows FabricBin. They were pointing to older FQDN under following node:
    <NodeList>
    <Node NodeName='yourserverfqdn' IPAddressOrFQDN='yourserverfqdn' IsSeedNode='true' NodeTypeRef='DefaultNodeType' />
    </NodeList>
These files won't let you edit directly in notepad so you will need to make a copy of these files (just in case). Open up the notepad as 'Run As Administrator'. Drag these files to the notepad. After you are done editing, save these as original
names but make sure that the extension is .xml
You will also need to do IISReset
That did the trick for me.
    Thanks Snehal H.Rana SharePoint Consultant

  • Hello everyone,
    I
have successfully installed Workflow Manager 1.0 (and its prerequisites) on my Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine that is hosting Sharepoint 2013. I attempt to go into the Workflow Manager Configuration. That comes up and asks me if I want to Create
new farm with Default Settings, New Farm with custom settings, or existing farm. I've tried both Default settings AND Custom settings.
    When
the configuration wizard comes up, I attempt to fill out the necessary information. It seems to connect to the SQL server without a problem. I only run into an issue when setting the USER ID. The program totally freezes up and force closes.
    I
have verified that the USERID is in the correct format and tried multiple different formats. The problem is that the moment I move the cursor from the USERID field to ANY other field, the program force closes. I'm not able to hit submit, I'm not
able to change any other options. The moment USERID is manipulated or the cursor LEAVES the USERID field, the program force closes. It won't even allow me to put in a password before it force closes.
    Customer
domain is running in Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edittion SP2.
    Any
    ideas?
I have installed also cumulative update to avoid crash but still I am getting force to close workflow wizard. I have used users which are already added in administrator groups.
We are using 3 tier architecture for Sharepoint 2013.
Also we have made Alias of Domain controller. Eg:-Alias is 'labs' for domain 'xyz.ab.com'.
And we are using labsspadmin and labsspservice for Workflow Manager Configuration 1.0
Is there any issue with Domain Alias 'labs' as Workflow gives error 'Specified RunAs account is invalid' or 'Force close the application'.
    I
have copied the errors from event viewer below:

Check to ensure that the user you're running the wizard as has access to the Users and Computers folders in Active Directory. I had trouble with the 'specified RunAs account is invalid' message, and when I granted the AD rights, I was able to proceed.
The issue would be that the user executing the wizard isn't able to query AD to look up the specified user. The RunAs account you're specifying is probably fine.

  • Hello all,
I'm hoping for some help in fixing this issue.
I've been trying to publish a workflow using SharePoint Designer only to find that I get this error:
'Errors were found when compilint the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run.'
After clicking on the advanced button it shows error:
System.InvalidOperationException: Operation failed with error Microsoft.Workflow.Client.WorkflowCommunicationException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. Client ActivityId : 6a78ad9c-6ac6-f03a-0680-003bd46e5f68. ---> System.Net.WebException:
The request was aborted: The request was canceled. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: The requested operation requires an HTTPS (SSL) channel.
Ensure that the target endpoint address supports SSL and try again.
    Target endpoint address:
Note: the message cuts off after the 'Target endpoint address'.
Looking on the SharePoint server, when I try and pull up the Workflow Manager site (https://localhost:12290/) I get this response:
    <?xml version='1.0'?>
    xmlns:i='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance'>
<Code>AuthorizationError</Code><message><Message>The caller does not have the necessary
permissions required for this operation. Permissions granted: None. Required permissions: ReadScope.</Message></message></Error>
I am running this farm with HTTPS and I have registered the SP workflow service with the appropriate application. I have also set the Workflow Management Site bindings in IIS to utilize the same certificate as the default SharePoint site.
At this point, I don't know if the error that I received from Designer is related to the Site error, although I do know that I also have a Development environment that is able to publish workflows just fine. However, this farm uses HTTP rather than HTTPS
so I can only assume that the differences are what's causing the issue. I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Thanks!

    Hi,
As I understand, you encountered the issue when you published a workflow on SharePoint 2013 workflow platform.
I wonder does it work well before when using 2013 workflow platform? If it works before, did you install any updates or change the configuration to the workflow related settings?
If this is the first time after you installed workflow manager 2013, then I’d recommend you try re-registering workflow service per the link below and post the result:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj663115(v=office.15).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj658588(v=office.15).aspx
From the message you accessed workflow host uri, please make sure the account to wfsetup and wfservice account are both in wfadmins group.

  • Hi,
I am not sure this topic to this forum, since this might be installation issue.
But I am hitting a big wall.
    I had Windows 2000 SP4.
I have already installed Oracle Database 10gR1, Oracle Developer 10gR2, and Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 Standalone previously.
    Including :
    - Oracle Workflow Server 2.6.3
    - Oracle Workflow Builder 2.6.3.5
    - Apache HTTP Server 9.0.4
    - Workflow Middle Tier
Anything seems to right, including the Notification Mailer and the Business Event.
And I had also made backup of them surely.
    Now,
I'd like to change into Oracle Database 10gR2 because :
    1. Some errors I found when I tried to call a Report from Oracle Form.
Unable to connect to Report Server ...
I thought Oracle Database 10gR1 is not suitable for Oracle Developer 10gR2.
    2. And in the OWF 2.6.3 Workflow Home Page, there was no Logout button (which I found in OWF 2.6.4)
I removed my previous installation including Oracle Workflow.
After strugglineg in the installation of Oracle Database 10gR2, now I am facing another problem with Oracle Workflow.
I succesfully installed Oracle Workflow 2.6.4 Server and Oracle Workflow Manager (standalone version),
and the Oracle Workflow Middle Tier.
After I launch Oracle Workflow Configuration Assisstant, everthing seems to be normal.
I succed to open the Oracle Workflow Home Page (and found the Logout button there)
Next, I tried to navigate to the Oracle Workflow Manager.
    1. I start the OC4J_Workflow_Management_Container --> initialized
    2. OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container
The following error line appeared in the OC4J command prompt

    3. finally it initialized
Next I tried to go to Oracle Workflow Manager from related link of Enterprise Manager
It is said that the OWF_MGR is locked
(I surprised since I had UNLOCKED the OWF_MGR after the installation and succeed to login at the Workflow Home Page)
And the following error line appeared in the commaned prompt after that
06/05/26 10:35:03 OrionCMTConnection not closed, check your code!
06/05/26 10:35:03 Logical connection not closed, check your code!

    4. I re-UNLOCK the OWF_MGR and login to Oracle Workflow Manager
I noticed that the Agent Listener and Notification Service is Unavailable
(In OWF 2.6.3, The Agent Listener was started and Notification Service was waiting to be configured)
I tried to start one of the Agent Listener, but the following error appeared
ERROR: The Service Component Container is not running
Well, I had the same problem when installing the OWF 2.6.3
I tried to uninstall (remove) and re-install it like I had done before in OWF 2.6.3
(based on someone's post in Oracle's forum)
But this time, the re-installation won't fix this problem. (It was succeed in the OWF 2.6.3)
    Everytime I start the OC4J, using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
    the OWF_MGR is re-LOCKED(TIME) automatically.
And the servlet (WFALSNRSVC and WFMLRSVC) are not running.
I am worry, since I cannot use the Notification Mailer if this problem had not fixed yet.
(In OWF 2.6.3, the mailer was not available until those servlet is Started)
    Sorry for the long post.
    Any help would be grateful.
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
Finally, I have found the solution.
    Step :
    1. Start all of the Oracle Service, except for the OC4J
If you have already started OC4J, then stop them
    Unlocked the <wf_manager_user>
    2. Search in your Oracle Home :
    with
    password='<your_wf_manager_password>',
    should be look like this
    password='a'
    5. Now start the OC4J using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
    6. Next, login to the Oracle Workflow Manager
    This worked for me.
Hope this will help someone who has the same problem.

  • Hello everyone,
I have successfully installed Workflow Manager 1.0 (and its prerequisites) on my Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine
that is hosting Sharepoint 2013. I attempt to go into the Workflow Manager Configuration. That comes up and asks me if I want to Create new farm with Default Settings, New Farm with custom settings, or existing farm. I've tried both Default
    settings AND Custom settings.
When the configuration wizard comes up, I attempt to fill out the necessary information. It seems to connect
to the SQL server without a problem. I only run into an issue when setting the USER ID. The program totally freezes up and force closes.
I have verified that the USERID is in the correct format and tried multiple different formats. The problem
is that the moment I move the cursor from the USERID field to ANY other field, the program force closes. I'm not able to hit submit, I'm not able to change any other options. The moment USERID is manipulated or the cursor LEAVES the USERID field,
the program force closes. It won't even allow me to put in a password before it force closes.
Customer domain is running in Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edittion SP2.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you very much!

  • I am trying to install WF Manager, but with no success.
On the same machine, I have installed SQL Server 2014, SharePoint 2013 with SP1 and WF Manager.
I installed WF manager (account that runs WF manager is sp farm admin) and registered with command
    Register-SPWorkflowService -SPSite 'http://dev/' -WorkflowHostUri 'http://localhost:12291' -AllowOAuthHttp
In Central Admin, when I click on 'Workflow Service Application Proxy ', I get message that WF is connected. Backend service is running. In SP Designer, I can create 2013 Workflow and publish it, but that WF does not work, it break instantly.
In SP logs, I get this error when I try to activate feature that contains workflow (solution that contains WF created in Visual Studio):

So, I deleted WF manager and service bus and reinstalled it, but with no luck. Now backedn service is not working, and I can't start it, getting this error:
'The Workflow Manager Backend service could not be started A system error has occurred System error 1067 has occurred'
In Event Viewer I have this error:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/de554aed-c9ae-4725-82fa-251446bacc20/workflow-manager-10-sharepoint-2013-the-process-was-terminated-due-to-an-unhandled-exception?forum=sharepointgeneral
I have tried to reinstall everything couple of times, but it doesn't work. I think that I am not deleting everything related to workflow before reinstallation. How can I unregister already registered WF service and reinstall everything correctly??

  • Hi everyone,
    I found
this post by Adis Jugo and I wondered if this is (or maybe is planned to be) supported in SharePoint Online?
I created custom code activity, used it in workflow (sharepoint app) and it works on SP 2013. What I want to do, if it is possible ofc, is to use the same sharepoint app in SP Online..
This is the tutorial which was followed to create Workflow CodeActivity..

    Hi Mahesh,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you register workflow manager for SharePoint 2013.
Firstly, please check whether you install SharePoint Developer tools Preview for VS 12. If yes, please uninstall it , and restart the server, then run Register-SPWorkflowService.
If this issue still exists, go to Central Administration, and check whether the web application is connected to Workflow service application proxy.
Here are some similar posts for you to take a look at:

  • Hello,
I have installed Workflow Manager and configured it to allow http and https communication, following the video instructions
: Install and configure Workflow in SharePoint Server 2013
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn201724(v=office.15).aspx
I implemented a simple workflow in a new 2013 team site using SharePoint Designer 2013 (following episode 6) and
    everything worked.
I then tried an identical list workflow in my root site collection (which was upgraded from 2010) and get:
Status Started: Retrying last request. Next attempt scheduled in less than one minute. Details of last request:

The process for creating and running these workflows was the same. Can anyone help?

    Hi Marcel,
Try executing the following command below and make sure that the workflows properly registered:
    $credential = [System.Net.CredentialCache]::DefaultNetworkCredentials
    $site = Get-SPSite(<siteUri>)
    $proxy = Get-SPWorkflowServiceApplicationProxy
    $svcAddress = $proxy.GetWorkflowServiceAddress($site)
    Copy-SPActivitiesToWorkflowService -WorkflowServiceAddress $svcAddress -Credential $credential -Force $true

    Hi,
For a better troubleshooting, I suggest you do as follows:
1.Try to install Service Bus 1.1 before update CU2.
    http://www.wictorwilen.se/issue-when-installing-workflow-manager-1.0-refresh-using-powershell
2.PowerShell 3.0 must be installed on the computer to be updated.
3.Check whether install Workflow Manager Client 1.0 on your computer.
4.Make sure you have administrative credentials on the computer.
If the issue still exists, you can also open a ticket to Microsoft Support to get more specific suggestions according to the actual scenario in your environment:

  • Hello All , Request your help on the below issue ,
We have a single server farm SP 2013 where workflow was working as expected but its broken now , Not sure
what caused this. Workflow manager is installed alongside Service Bus. Workflow Manager client is installed on the same SP server.
We are able to create and publish the workflows from SP Designer without errors but when we start the workflow from SharePoint list we get an error ' Sorry something went wrong'. We have tried creating new workflows but the same problem.
We receive the below error in event viewer.

    Hi,
As I understand, you encountered the issue when you published a workflow on SharePoint 2013 workflow platform.
